Winter Roundup

The holidays are a dangerous time. Even if you escape that steak tartare and home-made eggnog unscathed, there is no doubt the company Christmas Party will lay you low. Research centers and veterinarians can’t keep their freezers up and running, so what chance have you dear reader?

Before your yuletide cheer melts away take solace from statistics:

In 2011 there were 47.8 million cases of food borne illness in the US. Assuming 300 million Americans ate 3 meals per day in that non leap year, 328.5 billion individual meals were served, meaning there is a 0.015% chance of food poisoning per person at a given meal.

As long as you follow these useful holiday tips (handy year round) I like your odds, but as always heed the words of Sun Tzu:

“To rely on rustics and not prepare is the greatest of crimes; to be prepared beforehand for any contingency is the greatest of virtues”
