The Major Foodborne Illness Outbreaks of 2011

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 48 million foodborne illness cases occur in the United States every year. At least 128,000 Americans are hospitalized, and 3,000 die after consuming contaminated food.
That means about 1 in 6 Americans will suffer from a foodborne illness this year. With the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) passing in January 2011, the focus has shifted more towards preventing outbreak, rather than responding to one. Despite this act being put into law these majors outbreaks still occurred in 2011.
Below is a link to a some nice content highlighting the major outbreaks of 2011 and beyond. The more we know about this the more we can make better decisions to prevent it, rather than merely reacting to it.
